Democratic Security Sector Governance

This publication presents the principles and practices of good policing which have emerged through processes of reform, trans-national exchanges, and the creation of international regimes; summarise some of the lessons learned on police reform and its implementation, or at least the lessons thought to have been learned so far; and describe the objective of this project and book, which is to examine what has been done and what has not yet been achieved in reforming the policing systems of transitional societies as judged by generally accepted principles and practices of democratic policing.
